NEC – Classic Motor Show – Welcomes our Club

The Classic Car Show at Birmingham NEC – 13th to 15th November

Published on YouTube – 17 Nov 2015

This show was too big to cover all of it! So, I have a quick wander around Hall One and The Pavillion at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2015. Contains Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz and also some proper cars from Dellow, Honda, DeLorean, Reliant and, best of all, a Mk2 Vauxhall Cavalier SRi.

“Opening our doors to yet more for 2015 in the shape of the
Black Country Classic Car Club”

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show will be welcoming 19 clubs to its 2015 line-up that are either brand new to the event or returning after a few years absence. The clubs span classic and viCMS Car Clubs 2015ntage car clubs as well as those dedicated to motorsport and youth.

Show Director Dan Nwaokolo said: “One of the main aims of the club displays is to show the breadth and diversity of the classic community. We have been totally spoilt for choice and we’re delighted to welcome these clubs into the 2015 event.”

The new clubs include TR Yoof, which is the youth register of the TR Drivers Club. TR Yoof was established in 2010 to cater for younger members of the TR scene, and is now displaying separately to the main club stand. A popular group, members and followers on Facebook total over 400.

Like your classics Japanese? You’ll love the Toyota Enthusiasts Club, which is joining us for 2015 too. Founded in 1991 as a non-profit organisation to promote the use and conservation of older Toyotas and Lexuses, the club welcomes owners of cars of any age.

Americana more your style? The Pre 50 American Auto Club and the Model T Register of Great Britain will be showing several great pre-war and post-war Stateside classics. Founded in 1965, the Pre 50 American Auto Club is the UK’s largest classic American transport club. Founded to preserve interest in American vehicles, it’s open to all owners or enthusiasts of American cars, regardless of whether they meet the pre-1950 criteria.

MGs on Track will be displaying for the first time as a separate entity to the MG Car Club of which it is a part. It will be showing MG’s most sporting side to the full; intended for those looking to have fun with road cars rather than stripped out racers, the group is voluntarily run to offer fun track days with fellow MG enthusiasts and will be happy to discuss this with show visitors.

Continuing the sporting theme, we’re welcoming the British Historic Kart Club and, tying into the overall show theme of She’s a Beauty, the British Women Racing Drivers’ Club. We’re no stranger to local clubs either, and are opening out doors to yet more for 2015 in the shape of the Black Country Classic Car Club and the Celtic Old Vehicle Owners Club.

Andrew Misseldine, Car Club Manager at Lancaster Insurance, added: “With recent news that auction houses are seeing a boost in first time buyers, there’s a real opportunity for clubs to increase their membership and this is something we’re keen to support by helping to raise the profiles of clubs within the industry. Here at Lancaster, we’re passionate about working with car clubs and have been for the last thirty years. We truly appreciate the enthusiasm and commitment that all clubs and their members bring to the industry and are dedicated to celebrating this movement. It’s fantastic to see the volume of new clubs that will be at this year’s show and we can’t wait to see how all attending clubs interpret the theme.”

The 2015 Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show will be held from 13th to 15th November with tickets now on sale. For more information on the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show or Classic Motorbike Show as well as all the ticket prices and booking details, visit www.necclassicmotorshow.com. UK paper driving licence abolished: what it means for you

Driving licence photocard and counterpartThe UK paper counterpart driving licence is to be abolished from 8 June 2015. Here’s what you need to know about the driving licence changes

The UK paper counterpart driving licence is to be scrapped on June 8 2015 but there remains confusion surrounding its upcoming departure.

The paper driving licence will no longer be issued by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) so when you renew or change your address on your licence after June 8th, only a new photocard will be sent back.

But motoring organisations are warning drivers about the problems the end of the paper licence could cause to hiring a car abroad or test driving potential new buys.

Post paper licence car hire problems

Currently, the green section of paper is required mainly for hiring cars but it will no longer be valid from June 8th. Instead, anyone wanting to hire a car while traveling abroad will need a special code to show endorsable convictions like speeding.

To get a code, drivers will need to log on to the DVLA website but be warned, the code you’re given will only valid for 72 hours. If you want to hire a car more than three days into a trip, you’ll need to generate a new code while abroad. If you don’t have access to internet, the DVLA will make a phone number available.

The counterpart removal is part of a major “red tape” abolition policy by Government motoring agencies with many facets moving online, saving an estimated £8 million. MyLicence – a joint venture between the DVLA and the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) – has been launched allowing drivers to check their details online.
